Bruce Award 2021: Nominations Open

We're pleased to announce that nominations are open for the Lieutenant Commander Henry V Bruce Award 2021. The Commander Bruce Award is awarded to a young person (or young people) who have encouraged others in Scouts over a period of time or at a one-off event.

The Commander Bruce Award (previously called The Bruce Award) was introduced after the Bruce family gave some money to Hampshire Scouts from a collection taken at the memorial service of the late Lieutenant Commander Henry V Bruce - a former chair of Hampshire Scouts - held at Winchester Cathedral. Explorer Scouts carried the flag leading the procession.

Presented annually, the award was originally given to an adult with a Scouting role and a youth member of Hampshire Scouts, who had inspired and encouraged others in Scouts either over a period of time or at a one-off event. In 2019, the Bruce family, the prize money increased from £50 to £500. In 2021, following a generous addition to the fund by another benefactor, the annual amount is now £2,000.

To be considered for the Commander Bruce Award a nominee must have inspired and encouraged others in Scouts over a period of time or at a one-off event.

The County Commissioner and County Youth Commissioner have prepared a written a document to introduce the 2021 award which you can find here.
